In the heart of Miami’s Little Havana, you find Café la Trova. A feeling of Cuba’s bygone years permeate the air.
The cafe is lead by world renown Cantinero Julio Cabrera and his team bring artisanal,handcrafted cocktails to life and James Beard Award Winning Chef Michelle Bernstein and her team bringing Cuban-styled dishes forth to savor. While there you also enjoy live music played by Trova musicians. Loved the feel!
I enjoyed two drinks. The first was a Cantinero’s choice. Just the right amount of tart and sweet! The other was a traditional red sangria.
For starters, we ordered the jamón serrano Croquetas with melted cheese and fig jam and the Maine lobster Croquetas with saffron aioli. They had the perfect consistency of béchamel sauce and were fabulous! I can’t say the same for the ceviche.
We ordered two main courses. We asked our server for recommendations. He proffered the Ropa Vieja. While I am not a fan of Ropa Vieja, I thought this one was delicious. Made from the skirt steak (churrasco) accompanied with white rice, black beans, tostones and avocado cream.
Our next selection was the traditional Cuban Lechon. A braised mojo marinated pork shoulder with steamed yuca, crispy pork skin, mojo and pickled onions. I was told it was fabulous.

Julio will bring five of his signature cocktails to Houston as well as a small food menu from Cafe La Trova. 1. Checked out the #rafenewyork bags selection at the super chic neimanmarcuscoralgables store.
2. Booked a tasting dinner at Michelin star restaurant stubborn_seed. We loved every bite.
3. Saw hernanbas The Conceptualists exhibition at thebassmoa. A must see!
4. Enjoyed live music and modern Cuban food at cafelatrovamiami. It’s as close to Havana as you can get.
5. Immersed ourselves in interactive installations at superblue.art with art from jr, lozanohemmer, teamlab, esdevlin and jamesturell.
6. Went to see the new acquisitions at rubellmuseum and of course sit and stare at kehindewiley’s work.
7. Had the most delicious sushi and sashimi at hiyakawamiami designed my beainteriorsdesign. It felt like we were inside a seashell. So chic!
8. Saw more art at perezartmuseum. Gary Simmons : Public Enemy and Yayoi Kusama : Love Is Calling.
9. Satisfied my craving for Filipino food at 1800lucky with nicoleponseca’s jeepneyforthewyn.
10. Dipped our toes in the water in South Beach and enjoyed the abundance of eye candy. Maybe next time we’ll spend a little bit more time doing nothing.

In the heart of Miami’s Little Havana, you find Café la Trova. A feeling of Cuba’s bygone years permeate the air.
The cafe is lead by world renown Cantinero Julio Cabrera and his team bring artisanal,handcrafted cocktails to life and James Beard Award Winning Chef Michelle Bernstein and her team bringing Cuban-styled dishes forth to savor. While there you also enjoy live music played by Trova musicians. Loved the feel!
I enjoyed two drinks. The first was a Cantinero’s choice. Just the right amount of tart and sweet! The other was a traditional red sangria.
For starters, we ordered the jamón serrano Croquetas with melted cheese and fig jam and the Maine lobster Croquetas with saffron aioli. They had the perfect consistency of béchamel sauce and were fabulous! I can’t say the same for the ceviche.
We ordered two main courses. We asked our server for recommendations. He proffered the Ropa Vieja. While I am not a fan of Ropa Vieja, I thought this one was delicious. Made from the skirt steak (churrasco) accompanied with white rice, black beans, tostones and avocado cream.
Our next selection was the traditional Cuban Lechon. A braised mojo marinated pork shoulder with steamed yuca, crispy pork skin, mojo and pickled onions. I was told it was fabulous.
